Microsoft UX Design Certification Grocery App

Designed an end-to-end mobile grocery app prototype in Figma from user research to interactive handoff using the Fluent 2 Design System.

Overview

For this capstone project, I acted as a UX designer working for a startup company that aims to revolutionize grocery shopping for busy professionals. I designed a mobile application that simplifies the grocery shopping experience, making it more efficient and enjoyable for users with hectic schedules.

User Research

I created a user research plan using interviews and surveys. I created the interview questions and refined the interview audience to more closely match the app’s target audience. Using the information gathered, I created user personas and storyboarded.

Define User Needs

The users of “the Grocery Shopping App” are busy professionals who have limited time to do grocery shopping. Through user research, I narrowed down to a user need I could address.

Budget-conscious options: Users want to find affordable and healthy meal options that fit their budget.

The search function uses budget and health preferences as filters. The search returns exciting recipes within the selected budget and health preferences. The recipe card would contain a detailed ingredient list that you can add to your shopping cart, along with cooking instructions.

Filtering by meals suggested for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or snacks is achieved by filter pills/chips. This allows users to quickly filter to certain meal types they are shopping for.

Once a user has entered their desired filters and selected a recipe, a more in-depth recipe card is shown. The card shows the cook time, overall cost, and cost per ingredient, with the ability to deselect ingredients if they already have them.

After the prototype was reviewed by peers in the program, small prototyping errors were fixed. I then created a user testing plan to test users on specific tasks and ask additional questions about their app usage.
